Primate Elijah Babatunde Ayodele
of INRI Evangelistic Church, Isolo, Lagos is seeking absolution for the
founder and general overseer of the Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN),
Prophet T. B. Joshua and the general overseer of the Christian Praying
Assembly, Rev. Chukwuemeka Ezeugo, popularly known as Reverend King.
TB Joshua’s Synagogue and its contractors are standing trial before a Lagos State High Court in respect of the collapsed guest house located within the church premises around Ikotun-Egbe area of Lagos state on Friday, September 12, 2014, which was said to have killed about 116 people.
However Rev King’s case is different as he is currently challenging, a Lagos State High Court on his sentence to death by hanging since 2006 on a six-count charge of attempted murder and murder.
The primate lamented that other churches had continued to be silent over TB Joshua’s plights linking it to reason that the SCOAN pastor was not member of Christian Association of Nigeria and Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria.
He said: “I am appealing to the government of Lagos State to temper justice with mercy over Pastor TB Joshua considering the fact that he has helped quite a great number of people spiritually and has empowered them largely.
They should please forgive him and leave the rest to God if they think he was really guilty as charged.”
In another development, Primate Ayodele has advised President Muhammadu Buhari that the former president Goodluck Jonathan needs to be handled with care so that the situation does not boomerang.
Ayodele said the tremendous goodwill Jonathan enjoys around the nation for honourably stepping down during the last election and putting Nigeria on a truly democratic path that the world admires, is a major factor why he needs to be handled with care.
